Format guide

Moving a build from litematic to mcstructure

A Litematica file is not a Bedrock structure file with a different extension. Use this guide to identify the format you need, prepare the build, and check the result before placing it in a world.

Who needs a Bedrock structure file?

Builders moving a design from Java Edition to Bedrock Edition need to account for more than the filename. The two formats belong to different tools and editions.

The tool block: choose a format-aware route

First confirm that a tool actually exports .mcstructure. A Minecraft-style preview, a Java schematic, and a Bedrock-importable file are different deliverables.

Java schematic builder

You have a Java-world design but no Bedrock structure file. Check the available export formats before spending time refining the build.

The 3d to minecraft schematic guide explains the Java-side schematic route; it does not make a schematic a Bedrock file.

3D model creator

Your starting point is a model rather than an existing Minecraft build. Decide how its shapes and scale should translate into blocks first.

The 3d model to minecraft guide covers that earlier model-to-block stage before you choose an edition-specific export.

Schematic archivist

You are sorting older Java schematic files alongside Litematica projects. Identify the source format before attempting a cross-edition move.

The schem to litematic guide addresses conversion within the Java schematic workflow, not Bedrock import.

Import steps: inspect the build before placement

These site example images are visual references, not proof of a successful file conversion. Apply the checks below to your actual exported structure.

  • First Minecraft-style example build Check the file
    1
Input: the pictured example build as a visual reference. Confirm that your actual export is a .mcstructure file, not an image or a renamed .litematic file.
  • Second Minecraft-style example build Test placement
    2
Input: the pictured example build as a visual reference. Import a test copy in Bedrock and inspect its dimensions and placement origin before using it in a main world.
  • Third Minecraft-style example build Inspect result
    3
Input: the pictured example build as a visual reference. Compare blocks, orientation, and empty spaces with the source; repair unsupported details after import.

Common import errors

Check the file, then check the build

If Bedrock rejects the file, verify that it contains MCStructure data rather than a renamed Litematic schematic. If it loads but looks wrong, test its origin and rotation, then inspect block substitutions and missing details. Keep the original Java file so you can compare the two builds. 3dtolitematic links to a Minecraft creation tool; verify its supported exports there before relying on it for this conversion.

Litematic to MCStructure FAQ

No. The extensions identify different file formats, so changing the name leaves the underlying data unchanged. Use a converter that explicitly supports Bedrock structure export, then test the exported file in Bedrock.

Litematica is a Java Edition mod, and its schematic is not a Bedrock structure file. Check the format of the file you supplied and whether the tool you used actually produced .mcstructure data. A picture of the build is not an importable structure either.

Do not assume an exact match. Java and Bedrock can represent blocks and their states differently, so a conversion may substitute or omit details. Inspect a test placement against the original, especially directional blocks and decorative features.

Check the structure's saved origin, dimensions, and placement settings. Try it in a test area before placing it in a finished world. If the build faces the wrong way, inspect its rotation and any directional blocks after repositioning.
